It’s true. There is no magical easy way to lose weight. What it really all comes down to is that you have to be burning more calories than you are consuming in order to shed the pounds.
But, while there is no magic bullet to weight loss, there are quite a few easy things you can do to help you slim down faster. Doing these little things every day can make a dramatic difference in the long run and help you to lose weight and keep it off.
1. Replace Soft Drinks and Sugary Juices
Soft drinks are loaded with things that your body just does not need – especially not if you are trying to lose weight. Many bottled juices also contain a lot of sugar that you could certainly do without. If you are feeling thirsty, your best option is water. It has zero calories and it’s really the purest form of what your body needs when you need to be refreshed.
2. Eat Whole Foods
Many of the foods we eat are not in their most natural and healthiest forms. Things like rice and wheat products are usually made from grains that have had their healthy outer shell and inner germ polished away. This is why eating whole grains is so much better for you. Aside from the extra nutrients, eating whole grains can help you to lose weight because they are heavier and make you feel full longer so you won’t be hungry for more snacks or food later on. Whole grains are a very important addition to your diet that you simply should not neglect.
3. Eat One Serving Of A Full Fat Milk Product Per Day
This may seem contrary to natural logic, but apparently your body needs a certain amount of fat. The fats found in whole milk products can help to provide this requirement so that your body won’t feel like it is starving and will be able to metabolize the fat you already have in your body. Though this is not going to help you immediately, studies show that women who consumed one serving of yogurt or hard cheese per day lost more weight in the long run.
4. Take the Scenic Route on your Walks
Keeping physically active is one of the biggest factors in how fast your body metabolizes fat. Most people feel they need to exercise like crazy to see the results of being active. But, while working out is definitely good, you can enjoy the slimming benefits of a daily walk just fine. Every bit of activity that you can squeeze into your busy day is doing your body good. Think about taking the stairs instead of the escalator and avoid taking short cuts to get places when you walk. The calories you burn by doing this will add up over time.
5. Get Sufficient Sleep
Sleeping seems to be the exact opposite of being physically active. However, if you aren’t getting enough sleep it can lead to a number of health problems, one of which may be weight gain. If your body is under stress from something like a lack of sleep, it cannot perform the functions it is meant to perform properly. So make sure you are getting the recommended amount sleep.
6. Eat Smaller More Frequent Meals
Some people can really benefit from eating smaller more frequent meals. Although you will be eating more often, you won’t be extremely hungry every time you sit down for a meal and you’ll be less likely to over eat. One study showed that men who ate 5 or 6 times a day, instead of the 3 square meals most of us eat, actually ate about 30% less food each day.
7. Satisfy your Cravings the Smart Way
It can be really difficult to maintain your weight if you are constantly craving foods that are high in fat and sugar. So what can you do about this? Well, you can find foods that are just as satisfying but much lower in caloric content. Some foods that seem decadent but actually are quite low calorie are seafoods like lobster and shrimp, smoked salmon and even unsweetened whipped cream. If you are craving for something, try to look for its healthier equivalent and satisfy your hunger on that instead.
These tips can help you slim down over time. It is the small things we do that make the biggest difference in the long run.
